Catholics Arts and Letters Award

The CALA is an award for outstanding FICTION and is awarded based on literary merit. The deadline for the next CALA Awards will be January 31, 2014. Titles published from October 1, 2012 to January 31, 2014 will be eligible for the 2014 CALA.

Please note: Your book must receive the Seal of Approval prior to CALA Submission. The SoA Submission and awarding periods are:
  • Accepting submissions January 1-31, awarding by March 31
  • Accepting submissions April 1-30, awarding by June 30
  • Accepting submissions July 1-31, awarding by September 30
  • Accepting submissions September 1-30, awarding by November 30

As this is the third year of this award, it may be limited to one award category unless there are sufficient entries to justify additional awards as described below. However, all books will be judged according to genre guidelines even if only one is offered, and therefore genre should be designated on the entry form.

CWG Prayer

Holy Family,

Guide our minds, our hearts, our hands,
as we write, speak, illustrate –
help our words to live in union with the Word.

Teach us discipline and skill
to use the talents God gives us.

Give us also insight and courage
to convey God's love through our craft,

and humility to be open
to His divine will, shaping our lives,
in loving loyalty to His Church.

In Christ's name,

Amen.
