Hi, I’m Mike Hays and I’m in charge of the memberships for the CWG. I will soon receive your notice of payment and registration and will get you into the active members group in a couple of days. Welcome!

We’re a big and growing group with a lot going on, most of which you can find out about on our website. The home page has news of the Guild and its members, and we have an FAQ section that addresses most of our programs. (We’re working to beef it up with even more details.)

Our forums are for members mostly, although there are some areas open to guests. There, you’ll find places to trade brags and tips, to look for markets, to get critiques, and to learn more about our programs. I’d like to call your attention to a few:

--Under the markets, you can download copies of Funds for Writers, a monthly newsletter with hundreds of writing opportunities, including contests, markets, and grants. The Guild has a group subscription, and thus, it’s free for members.
--There are several wonderful critique groups. Some are more active than others, but all are open to members.
--Several of our programs have active forums, where you can go to ask questions or to offer your help. We definitely need more volunteers, so please jump on in!
--We have forums where you can introduce yourself, brag about your latest writing accomplishment, ask for help, or request prayers. Take some time to browse the topics.

In addition to forums, we have weekly chats on Sunday 9-11 pm in the CWG Chat room. The link is on the main menu across the top. About once a month, we have a guest speaker; the rest of the time is for open chat.

We have a lot of exciting opportunities in the Guild for authors:

The CWG Seal of Approval is our program for helping evaluate the Catholicity of a book. It’s a gatekeeping tool for bookstore owners and readers, and a great plus for any book that’s reaching that audience. Intended mostly for authors that don’t have access to a Imprimatur (like writers of fiction), it basically says that the book does support Catholic believes and traditions. Members can apply to get the SoA for their books for free.

The CWG Newsletter to Bookstores: Member books that have an SoA or Imprimatur can get promoted to bookstores through our newsletter.

The CWG booth at the Catholic Marketing Network Trade Show: Each year, we have a booth where we highlight member books. They need to have an Imprimatur, SoA or approval by an officer to be displayed.

The Catholic Writers Conferences: We offer two conferences each year. In the winter (February/March timeframe), we host an online conference, and In August, we have a live conference in conjunction with the Catholic Marketing Network Trade show. You can learn more at www.catholicwritersconference.com

Starting next month, you’ll get our newsletter, Inside the CWG. It has the latest Guild news, what’s up in the forums, author interviews, book reviews, and more. Maria Rivera, our editor, is always on the lookout for articles if you’re interested.

Finally, we are a growing Guild, anxious to expand our programs in our mission to promote Catholic literature. However, we can’t do that without member participation. If you’d like to help with any of these programs, please get on the forums or contact me and I’ll get you in touch with the appropriate person. Also, our programs began because of a member’s brilliant idea—if you have a suggestion and especially if you’re willing to make it come to fruition, please contact me and I’ll let you know how to proceed.

God bless you and enjoy the Guild!

Mike Hays
Membership Coordinator, CWG
